Microsoft 365 E7 is worth evaluating when users need the capabilities in its bundle and your organization is ready to operate them. A useful comparison starts with the licenses you already own, the work you want to improve and a current quote.

What does E7 include?
Microsoft’s May 2026 announcement describes E7 as combining Microsoft 365 E5, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft Entra Suite and Microsoft Agent 365. Agent 365 provides management, governance and security for AI agents. Building an agent and operating the services it calls can involve separate products and costs.
E7 is a suite comparison, so do not automatically add its entire price to your existing Microsoft 365 bill. Confirm which subscriptions it replaces, which remain necessary and the transition terms for your agreement. The earlier version of this article described the price as being on top of everything you already pay; that framing was incorrect.
Compare users, not just plan names
Identify the people who will use Microsoft 365 Copilot and the groups that need additional identity or agent governance. Compare the current plan plus required add-ons with the E7 bundle for those groups. Check eligibility, Teams packaging, geography, commitment length and renewal timing with the seller.
Do not treat all security or device-management features as exclusive to E7. E3 and E5 already include capabilities that vary by plan. Use Microsoft’s current service descriptions for the specific control you need.
Make a small business case
Choose a recurring task with a measurable baseline. Record the time spent, volume, quality checks and exceptions before a pilot. Compare the pilot’s verified benefit with the incremental license and operating cost. Include administration, training and remediation work.
For example, a team reviewing internal documents might measure preparation time and factual corrections per review. A faster draft has limited value if reviewers must spend longer finding and repairing errors. This is a measurement approach, not a promised saving.
Check the operational prerequisites
Confirm data access, agent ownership, human approval boundaries and a way to stop an unsafe workflow. Review connected services and data handling before sensitive information enters the pilot. Keep a record of the decision to expand, revise or stop it.
